U-SNAP-BAC
| United Streets Networking and Planning: Building a Community (U-SNAP-BAC) is a consortium of seven neighborhood organizations and four business associations on Detroit's east side which was incorporated in 1987. U-SNAP-BAC Non-Profit Housing Corporation is organized to provide safe, decent and affordable homes for families of low-to-moderate income. U-SNAP-BAC Housing Corporation is a separate corporation initially created by U-SNAP-BAC Inc. to administer a Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) home repair program. The focus of this entity was later expanded to include housing rehabilitation and development because of the pervasive lack of affordable housing on Detroit's east side. Both organizations have the same board of directors and share executive and administrative staff. The mission of the housing corporation is to provide housing opportunities for low and moderate income families within its boundaries. U-SNAP-BAC provides a number of services to the community within our redevelopment area, including: home improvements for low income home owners; home ownership training; gut rehabilitation of vacant homes; and new housing development. Since 1987, U-SNAP-BAC has completed over 448 home repairs and 17 vacant houses have been rehabilitated and sold. U-SNAP-BAC also conducts home repair/maintenance workshops for potential homeowners.
